I agree with Rich K's suggesction that Earth #2 could indeed be Oman. The desert region (light tan) is the Waheiba sands, contrasted with the rough terrain of the Eastern Hajar mountains, just to the left in the photo. I can't discern if I can see Masirah Island just off the coast from Waheiba, or if that's the clouds. The cape at the upper left edge of land is Ras Al Hadd, AKA Ras Al Jinz. The bay on the right edge is the Gulf of Masirah, the salt flats (sabkha) are visible a little below it, and to its left edge. That stretch of coast is a prime nesting spot for sea turtles, and the fishing is superb; it sure brings back some fond memories. The town of Sur in in the bay just below Ras Al Jinz, and the capital, Muscat, it located just below the prominent cape to the very left edge of the land, with the gravel plains of the Batinah coas visible just below that.

We are above Oman, looking se into arabian sea. the two notable features are (from n to s) Al Haad Cape to Al Masirah Island, a fairly unpopulated area.

I appreciate the photo of Eighty Mile Beach, as I've been there. I have photos showing the complete opposite to yours, in that they are taken on the ground. See, Sea And Sand, the 2nd and 3rd shot, and Skyescapes, the 21st photo. Regards from Australia. Danielle

My husband also thinks this could be Lake Michigan, making the major city Chicago, IL

Earth #7, the boby of water looks about the same shape as Lake Michigan, just a guess.
