  • Spectacular photos of an age that we hope does not disappear all together from the public eye! However, I did notice a mis-titled photo in the Webshots collection... There is a photo of a green-hulled, two-masted Fredonia-style schooner on Boston Harbor incorrectly identified as the Ernestina, out of New Bedford. I do not know the correct name of the schooner pictured, but I can say without a doubt that it is not the Schooner Ernestina. I sailed in the Ernestina from 1989 to 1992 as an occasional voluteer crew and passenger. And I also served on the founding Board of Directors for the Ernestina/Morrissey Historical Association. Many times, other ships are mistaken for the Ernestina because of the long pennant that flies aloft on the main topmast. The pennant on Ernestina is yellow with a green border around her name. (The colors represent the Cape Verdean Islands, the country of previous ownership before giving her back to the US in 1976.) The colors in the photo are different. The other telltale feature in the photo is the color of the hull. The Ernestina ex Effie M. Morrissey has always been painted black, even to this day, (with the exception of her US Navy days during WWII, when she was painted gray). Never-the-less, it is a beautiful vessel, and I enjoy viewing them. Look forward to more, and maybe some of Ernestina in the future.

  • I love the collection of tall ships; however, is it only at sea that you can capture them in full sail? Seems to me tall ships are so much more magnificent under full steam or full wind so to speak.

  • I love to look at these ships, but I'm not one to travel that way. I am an artist and I would love to use a few as starters to get the right idea of where things go, but not be exact so it would be plagerism, I'm only a begginer at sharing. I started as therapy for illnesses I was recovering, some I still am but people like what I do, and while I am considered disabled by the government, they won't pay me as my husband is a disabled 2-time triple bypass heart patient. So I considered showing my art, and as yet I have not done any tall ships or Webshot photos, but if its legal, I would like to know. At any rate, your photos do inspire me.
