Fantastic Album. All the photos are well exposed and framed plus you have captured the charm of these places. I love that Polperro it was my favourite village when I visited that part of England. You have some wonderful Albums on show Rod and your photographic skills shine through. Regards from Terry.

Gorgeous photos. I feel fortunate to live in the West Country and your photos really bring that home. The area has a unique beauty. Your photos also make me miss Cornwall. I have not visited for over a year and must in the spring. I've added some photos to my page from a trip to Dartmoor I did in September which you may like. David, Bristol

Dear Rod, This album has brought back some lovely memories for me. I first visited Devon and Cornwall in 1970. I loved everything about it - the little coves and inlets, the villages and the countryside. Your photography always portrays the various scenes beautifully. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes, Judith, from Australia.

Hello Rod, Another gorgeous album - you have so many of them I can always find something new to admire! Thank you. Thanks also for your kind comments in my sunsets today. It was the first time I had shot a sunset and I really didn't know what setting to use, so I just tried everything and ended up with about 75 shots - that's an amateur for you! (Most of them were binned, of course!) Take care, Mandy

Hello Rod, once again. I get so much pleasure out of this album and return to it time and time again. Thanks for the GB an hour or so ago and also the one to Betty's album. She was more thrilled to hear from you than had it been the Mayor of Teignmouth writing! Interesting what you tell me about the Toby Jug and thanks for remembering my earlier interest, which stemmed from working, not drinking, days! All best wishes, Peter

Ohhhh, Rod, each of your additions speaks volumes - your photos stand with the very best of them anywhere. I agree with Jill, that the sky at Topsham is gorgeous as is the rest of the subject, tho' I'm not sure what the boat up on land intends to do. *grin* Your photo and description of the ferry on the River Dart was good too. I keep looking at your work and learning ... Judy

Dear Rod, OOO I like the new additions some great clouds in the sky at Topsham. Thank you so much for your recent GB entries I can hardly keep up these days :-/ LOL. In answer to whether we have planned a holiday, Lots of things are happening to make planning anything just now difficult but I'm sure we will do something and probably at short notice. The Marshes at Elmley are amazing but the Isle of Sheppey is not the most picturesque place to visit. It was hard to get miles of marshland to look intersting. Have you planned a visit to your homeland yet ? Take care now, Jill

I enjoyed the photo of Widemouth Bay. It brought back memories of when I used to go surfing there in the 50's on family holidays - seems like a long time ago. I took my family there in 1989 and was reminded just how cold the water can be - compared to what we are used to in the Gulf of Mexico, and then again in 2003 my wife and I hiked there in a howling gale from Bude. Hi Rod, Hey look, I'm following Judy! I think it was through Judy that I visited your albums so I'm grateful to her for that. Thanks for your kind comments about my Cotswold album. I had a lovely time there and was lucky with the weather. You must get back there again. I had hoped to visit quite a few other places but didn't get a chance. It doesn't take me long to get there so hopefully I will get back in the summer. I visited this album some time ago and have just gone through it again. I love them all - you are a fine photographer Rod! My favourites are #2 Levant mine. My brother would love that. He was very into tin mines at one point and came close to writing a book about them. #44 is another beautiful shot. I adore reflections in water and they are captured superbly in this photo. #38 is also a stunner! Truly beautiful. I don't know if you ever see a photo and it brings a lump to your throat Rod but your photo's are amongst the ones that do that to me. I hope you and your family are well and that you have a great Easter. Take Care. Chesca

Dear Rod - I love your pictures of Devon and your newest additions are wonderful! I do not know the term "shingled beach," but would it equate to 'pebbled' or 'rocky' as we might say here in the US? The springtime warmth shows in your photos and I know you are happy to have your long hard winter behind you! ... I was happy to see that I helped 'introduce' you to Chesca back in January - it's fun to spread the word on good work!

Easter blessings, Judy aka L@dybug, Florida

Dear Rod, I love the new additions to this album but you know what its like I have to view everyone of these pictures each time I visit. I really liked the view of Dartmoor and Bowerman's Nose and also the shot of the beach at Sidmouth you were very lucky with the light on that occasion. Some of the other pictures looked different to me too but I couldn't work out if they were new ones or whether it was new titles. Whatever it is always a pleasure to view your pictures. Thank you so much for visiting both my Sandwich album and also my new Spring album I am so looking forward to warmer temperatures and real springlike weather so I can get out and about some more as I'm sure you are too. Take care now Jill

Hi Rod, Do like taking tours with you, a pleasure to view while you cover the area with descriptions, color and beauty. A picture of a steam train in one of your ending pictures was a grand 'find' for me, I was looking at the very large boat marina, thanks for 'pointing' it out. Downloaded The Cott Inn, the Luscombe Castle and the red poppies, couldn't pass up a good bargain on color! The houses in #11 -really that close together? They look like a whole lot of buildings that are all glued together. An interesting picture though, good composition throughout. Thanks for your time. Best regards and greetings from the South Coast of Oregon. Ron

Hello Rod, I never tire of your wonderful skill, every picture a gem, as my australian mate Peter quotes it is all on you doorstep but you still have to have the light subject and the eye, and you certainly have all three requiements, thanks for your kind words on my Durham album, it was such a pity that the weather was appalling, I hope to go again up to Northumberland in May or June next year, so like you I will try and replace some of them with better pics. especially in Durham and Newcastle its self. again a wonderful album and knowing most of the places it as if we were there. take care and the very best of regards Ken

Hi Rod, more wonderful additions to this album! #45, the 'River Dart Marina', is my current wallpaper; my husband and I can picture ourselves in those boats! #49, 'Bowerman's Nose' is a wonderful shot - so clear both the foreground and the patchwork quite of fields. ... Thank you for your note in my "Liechtenstein, Austria & Swiss '98" album; oh to have had a little more time in Liechtenstein and Switzerland! It must be so nice to be able to get in your car and take a drive to such wonderful places knowing that you'll be there in a matter of minutes. (Well, MOST of the places anyway). Great to see another angle on Teignmouth and that doorway made from a boat looks so perfectly in keeping with it's surrounds. I imagine the River Dart scene is Kingswear and that the steam train is a tourist special (I think I once told you that I have a wonderful painting of The Cornishman just about to enter Teignmouth station). The Bude photo also holds memories of some wonderful holidays in the late 1940's/early 1950's when we always stayed at Stratton. Beautiful photos as always Rod. Many thanks for your entries in my two Flowery guest books - I seem to have a thing about flowers right now mainly, I think, because they are all coming out again after their winter "sleep" But now the weather is gradually starting to warm up once more so it won't be long before we get out and about again and I can revert to my more natural element of land and seascape photography. Thanks again for your interest and encouragement and I have another photo I would like to email you for possible ID if you don't mind. Best wishes, Peter

Hi Rod, love the additions, do you know that beach in Bude was almost empty in Hun when I was there even though it was a glorious day, I bet you are haveing lots of fun revisiting all these wonderful places. I never tire of going to our special place on this side of the country each in its own way beautiful. I wonder if in years to come our photographs will be looked at and remarked upon, it seems though to us they are timeless, Thanks for these wonderful views and take care Ken

Hi Rod, I never tire of looking at this wonderful album, so very authentic the the west country or in my navy days Janner land, thats any where south of Pymouth. great pics, thanks for the GB on my I'm album. yes the pics have come from all the past year virtualy. Whenever I go out with my camera now I sometimes look at a subject and put the caption to it before I take the picture. It opens a whole range of things which normaly you would not give a tinkers cuss for. Thanks again and best regards Ken

Hi again Rod and I appreciate very much your words in my new Wild Flowers and Country Towns album, That was about the only really clear day that we had all week but even then the wind was blowing like crazy most of the time. You can't win 'em all but at least we didn't get more than half an hour of rain all week which didn't please the farmers very much but no objections from us. You will be overjoyed (!) to know that there will be at least 7 more albums to come out of this trip and most will be in my georgieboy05 account. LOL. Now off to my weekly exercise class so catch you later. Regards, Peter

Wonderful photos. I enjoyed this album and will look at more while here. My name is Ginger Olansen and I did a watercolor of Bocastle Pixie cottage just before the area was destroyed. I know the painting was dedicated and residing in a church. Have you seen it? You can see a copy of the painint in my album called Ginger Olansen's Art album 2" no 26 .

A lovely photo of Sidmouth Rod and I think one of the things that makes it so interesting is the total lack of people. It somehow adds an air of mystery to the picture - you find yourself wondering when someone is going to come on the scene and start that boat up and just how far out to see they will be going. I love it. Strangely Sidmouth is one of the few places on that coast that we never got to visit. While I've got you I want to thank you for looking at my Local Countryside album and for the kind words you wrote in my GB. The purpose of those photos was to satisfy the many people who have asked me what the countryside is like around us. They were actually taken in SHQ mode, about the highest jpeg you can get, the next step up being TIFF. Each pic came in at around 2.7mbs and viewed on screen I really can't tell the difference between that mode and the next one down. Today I bought an ND filter for the Olympus so will be out experimenting with it at the first opportunity. Had hoped to have another look at the Nikon today but it seems I have missed my chance for the time being, but the offer will be repeated (they tell me) in a few weeks time. All best wishes, Peter

Another great photo to celebrate the first anniversary of this album. I'm looking forward to the day when you actually get to take us on a trip on that narrow boat. I am fascinated by these craft and recently read a couple of books written by a lady who, with her hubby, sold their house and bought a narrow boat in which they spent the next few years blissfully cruising most of England's canals. A great read. If I can find them again I'll joy down the titles and author and send it to you. Cheers for now. Peter

It's always a pleasure to come back to what I have long believed is the finest album in all Webshots. Additions or not I always have to go right back to the start and work my way through! The Fowey shots are wonderful and, as always, you have successfully captured the atmosphere of the place so well. And as for the two Tiverton photos, well they are just superb. That old carthorse would have been a dream to photograph and I have always had a love affair with narrow boats! Marvellous work Rod. All the best Peter

He Rod and many thanks for your entry in my Bells Rapids guest book. Its been a funny winter for rain - the wettest June in 76 years followed by the driest July since 1871 and now August is shaping up to be just about spot on average. As the dams are only at 30% capacity though, with summer round the corner, things could be better, for sure! Webshots seem to have resolved the problems I was having and have found the missing albums - strangely I haven't come across anyone else with the same problem that you have but did notice yesterday that one of my favourites had all their albums duplicated!! With over a million photos posted yesterday alone it is not really surprising that things are starting to get a bit out of hand! Catch you later - am being dragged off out for the weekly shopping trip! Peter

Hello Rod, I am a jealous as hell of these wonderful images of your wonderful part of the world, so many little fishing ports to go to, and I concur with what Peter says you have captured the atmosphere brilliantly, I have recently had to content myself with the two magnificent Cathedrals in our region, cant compete with cornish fishing villages, great work Rod. Question do you constantly taake photos out and add new ones, I like to do that just for my ego of thinking I am making it better all the time, then along comes a gb with a fov in that I think is not very good, can't win Good luck mate and some wonderful additions I like the two poppy shots, Ken or Carolynn whichever you prefer

Is it The Atmosphere of Cornwall you have added? If so it is a super-magnificent photo and you have REALLY captured the atmosphere of that old place. We have a Vernon Ward print on our living room wall of almost that same scene but somehow you have managed to get that extra indefinable something into it. Excellent work and I'll be taking that as a screen saver. Best wishes from a cold land down under (cold this morning, anyway!) Peter

Hi Rod, Oh My am I glad I have found you albums now and this one is just fantasic. I was going to try to get back to you quicker and thank you for your suggestion on another webshot member to look at before we go to Scotland so thank you for that but I was kinda of a busy girl last week with something very exciting for us when we visited a local nature reserve that has wild beavers and then many more trips out too last week. When we go to Scotland we are staying a few days on Mull which I am really looking forward to and then a week at Fort William. As you will see from some of my albums we are walkers who enjoy climbing the mountains but we can't do that everyday so we are looking for places to visit too. Out came my map book to work out how far Aviemore is from Fort William when you said thats where you had stayed recently. What a fantastic place to grow up but where you live now is just as picturesque, just very different. It's an impossible task to choose a favourite from this album but the ones of Looe and Polperro will be high up there and then there is the beutiful poppy fields too It just says summer to me :o) Take care now and I will be back to view more very soon, Jill. PS. Boscastle is where we stayed for our honeymoon 24years ago so thank you for the reminder of that most beutiful place. Such an awful shame about the floods last year :o(

Love all the additions Rod. Fowey will always be remembered from the time we were having a look around the castle. Betty suddenly went as white as a ghost and said she could hear noises coming from down in the dungeons. I've never seen her move so fast before - just couldn't get away quick enough. LOL Those fields with the poppies in the foreground are just so wonderful and so very ENGLISH. I still subscribe to This England and that is typical of the photos they publish on a regular basis. Beautiful. Glad you liked the jigsaw by the way! Cheers now, Peter

Hi Rod. Love those Looe and Polperro photos and you are so fortunate in having such picturesque places so close to hand. We visited both during our holiday in '97 but it POURED down and we couldn't even make out Looe Island, it was so murky! Do you go down that way very often? You must have added the EYE photo one day when I was looking the other way - that's indeed a magnificent shot. Would that be the north side of Totnes as the Dart heads off to the moors? Cheers now, Peter

Hello again Rod and thanks for looking at my album and your generous comments in my guestbook. Coming from you they are comments that I value highly. I was looking at the photo here of Powderham Castle - am I mistaken or has it been restored in recent years? I seem to remember it was not in a very good state of repair back in the 1960's but I COULD be confusing it with another castle in the same area. Either way it is a super photo and the framing sets it off to perfection. regards, Peter in Western Australia

Hi again Rod and greetings from down under. As always this album has completely blown me away. Possibly knowing most of the places has something to do with that but I have checked on my pics of the same areas and no way can they compare with yours. Has any of the snow reached down there yet? I would love to see some photos of Devon and Cornwall under a layer of that stuff! I well remember a huge snowstorm many, many years ago while we were living up the hill in Teignmouth.I think it would have been about 1969/70. We couldn't get out for two days and the Exeter Road was completely blocked off. If you get a minute I would like you to have a look at my latest On The Road Again album and see what you think of our state - it is vastly different from that wonderful west country. Hi Rod - Congratulations on your well-deserved feature today! I wish I had found your site sooner - these are fabulous shots - every one a postcard. #10 is my favorite - it should be a travel poster. We really love England and are planning our first visit to Cornwall this coming May. Your photos are an inspiration for us. Please stop by my site to see some photos of our earlier trips to England and let me know what you think. Cheers and warm greetings from California, Beth

Hi Rod and Congratulations on an absolutely beautiful album full of purely breathtaking photos! Each and every one of these photos is a Calendar picture and I think I downloaded nearly everyone as they are just simply stunning! I read a book many years ago called Penmarric set in Cornwall a couple of centuries ago and just loved it, and seeing Penzance and Cornwall is just like home! There has always been something about there that has always drawn me and this album is definitely a great feature and it is just WOW!! AWESOME!! tk you soo much for sharing your beautiful Westcountry of England as it sure is a treasure to behold! "Whitesand Bay Cornwall" is just stunning and soo reminds me of Aussie!! Have a really great Feature day as you sure deserve it....Em from Aussie

I enjoyed looking at your latest photos. I especially like the ones of the west coast since that is my favourite holiday haunt! The few of Boscastle are particularly poignant. I was there in July, just before the floods. I don't think it will ever look the same again. Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Rod!! A fantastically beautiful album. If you are just as proud on them as I like them, you are VERY proud of them. Great shots! And of course thank you for dropping by in my Summer Carnival album in Rotterdam!! It was so much fun! Exciting loud salsa music, great drums, great colours. My Nikon was a bit too slow for my liking when people were dancing and not just standing, so I took my faithfull powershot s30. Afterwards I still did some serious cropping... I am amazed the quality remained still OK.. Surprising is not it? Greetings Anna Oldenhave

I'm amazed at pictures, truly amazed. I've been viewing them all day today (Saturday 28th. August)sharing it with the Olympics, now awaiting Kelly Holmes on the track. I did not realize Torquay was such a beautiful place? Your arrangement of pictures is like a 'Tour', well it's a 'Tour-Guide' and Narration is just Perfect. I feel as if I'm there, I feel as if I know the place. What camera did you use? Were you high up taking these the pictures, they seem to be taken from high up. Great Pictures, I love them keep them coming! From Walthamstow, London, Kindest regards, Claude.
