Album Description:

I know nothing about fungi, other than they appear in the most unexpected places, such as my garden, or in shady places in the bush. When I see them I take a few shots, because they're so beautiful. This album was revised and edited on July 7th, 2007.

  • Hey Keith. do you really have all that fungi growing in your garden? No wonder you take such great photos of it because it seems you get so much practice! If ever Betty sees fungi in our garden you would think the end of the world as we know it was nigh. I (not HER, but I) have to dig it out, making sure I don't leave as much as a single spore, wrap it up securely in a plastic bag and deposit it in the dustbin. Now PLEASE don't ask why all this is necessary - for one thing Betty is SURE to have an answer (she always does!!) and for another thing I have long since stopped arguing about it - it never gets me anywhere so I just get on and do as I am told. But I am definitely NOT under her thumb - wouldn't want you to think that. Nice album buddy. Peter

  • Keith, I wouldn't want to test the waters here, just in case it went the other way. Don't know anything about fungi either, but won't be taking any chances or dares' for that matter, but you do a grandiose job of challenging the aspect of photography, these are good pictures. Thanks for the update. Ron

  • Hi Keith, Great pictures, who would have thought a fongus could be so interesting and photogenic... :-) Thanks for your entry into my guest book, very kind of you and very encouraging. It took me so long to respond as I ws on a trip to Antarctica and only now I have access to the Internet. It will take some weeks before I upload my pictures from there and I would appreciate your opinion about them. Thanks again, Uriel

  • WOW! Isn't it fun crawling around on your hands and knees peering through your macro lens to take these fabulous shots? For me. Macro is where it's at! Thanks for the kind comments to my Fabulous Fungi Album, the day I took these was a miracle. They were all in one place, I didn't have to crawl very far. I'm looking forward to this summer, with my new camera. Leona

  • Wow!Keith these give the Gumnut a run for its money!!!!! I love this album !-Actually your photography is just fabulous!hey Keith do you ever see the large Red with White Spots Fungi in your garden?I always thought that they were fantasy until we came to live here 17years ago -and I could not believe my eyes when they popped out of the ground -we wouldn't get high on those though we'd get low,six foot under actually because they are deadly ,the trouble is they are gorgeous and when they next come through I shall take some photos of them for you to see! This series of shots however has very sophisicated tonings and once again I would love to see one framed and hanging on a wall .Take care nice Aussie!!!!!!!!:0))))))))) )) warm wishes Lynne

  • Hi Keith, Mushrooms usually pull out of the ground when least expected or right after a rain, so these were probably unexpected as well, seeing how your weather is hot-hot, any rain in the forecast? Good shots-all Sir!! As usual, another great album and I'm two behind as I write. Take care of yourself. Ron/Oregon Coast

  • Hi Keith, Thanks for your comments. You're right mushrooms are wonderful subjects to photograph and yours are beautiful. Not to many people find beauty in them I guess, but if they just take the time to look, it's all there for a short time. I envy you all your countries beauty, always wanted to visit, but alas guess it's not to be. Thank you for my trip. Jan in Ca.

  • Hello, you captured these mushrooms with great art. The first 6 pics, makes me think of little leprechaun houses or something like that. Then I like #17 who makes me think of a lady with her big rim hat. And #22... a nice parasol. These pics are telling us a nice story. Very well done! Keep the good work and thank you for sharing. • Hi Keith, These are amazing wee plants sometimes we really do need to look closely at whats at our feet I don't know about you but I didn't get high though ;o)Thank you for the comments in my Early spiders album. The cliffs you saw pictured in the background are not the famous cliffs you see pictures of and Vera sings about they are on the other side of Dover. We do walk on top of those cliffs mind and they are known as the Langdon cliffs I have just started an album for this year on those and I think there is an older one from last year too its a fascinating place to walk and I do so regularly. Maybe you get that adrenaline high from taking pictures of those spiders but I could not look one in the eye and say I loved it. Take care now Jill

  • Hi Keith, Thanks for the comments on the photo of the hummingbird. Did you know that while they are hovering like that one did their wings flap 50 times a second. That is right, amazing. Yes we do have fungi and never thought of capturing them as you did in this album. I especially liked the #11 as it looked like it was sprouting green antennas. #22 was similar to what we have in the garden except ours are smaller and have a high rounded top. We have been picking from our veggie garden today. I blanched and froze green beans and my husband is in the process of making dill pickles. He does approximately 22 gallons per year and we share them with friends. Too bad you were not closer if you like dill pickles. The only one that we give to away from this area is our daughter in Massachusetts when she comes up at the growing season. Our other 2 daughters are in California so out of reach for Dad's specialty. Take care Janet

  • Fungi are great to photograph aren't they. They stand still. They don't wave in the wind. They are so varied even if they are of the same species. You can also get down and lay on the ground in the dirt for a good reason. This is a great album! Jim in Longview, WA & Hurricane, UT, USA

  • Hi Kieth, #'s 21 and 27 look like Boletus species; quite a few of those are edible and quite tasty (none are poisonous, but might taste bitter or bad). They don't have radiating gills, and look like a sponge underneath. The best edible ones are called Boletus Edulis with a smooth brownish cap, swollen pale brown stipe(stem), and the flesh of the mushroom is firm, white and unchanging in colour upon being touched or squeezed. If you get the urge to eat one.. please make sure you check it out with a good book on fungi and toadstools for Australia first! Anyway, the point of all this was that it probably does not qualify as a toadstool :-) ok, ok that was probably more info than you needed.. lol Cheers my friend, Haig

  • Hi Keith! This is an impressive collection of colourful Fungi in various forms, and you have turned them into true works of art. Looks as though you must have the best Fungi Garden in Australia and I almost expected the Fairies and Pixies to be peeping out from under them. Great work in producing this lovely album and I thought you might find this site about Australian Fungi interesting:-- http://www.anbg.gov.au/fungi/index.html ... Best wishes..
