  • We missed Capt. Miller's grave, but we must have been close since there seemed to be only one place to get onto dry land at Lake Miller. The hike along the levee above is a good break and spot to eat. We also saw an osprey at Lake Miller in the NE corner I think. Also, on the northside there was a marked water trail going back into the swamp that we didn't have time to check out, but it looked like fun and a little spooky. The cut to Mud Lake from there is hard to find, but not more than 100 yds or so west of the channel back to Lake Pass. I'ts also hard to find because it begins in a small inlet and actually runs parallel to begin with along the south side of the lake. Plus, if the water isn't high enough, you have to pull a ways through the mud, but not a big problem if you have toothpick legs like me. I think the following url gives the water depth readings. http://tx.waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?dd_cd=07%2C09%2C10%2C11&dd_cd=07&dd_cd=09&dd_cd=10&dd_cd=11&format=gif&period=14&site_no=08067118
