Album Description:

Last month my daughter invited me to take a look at a tree she never had seen. It stands in the middle of a small yard. Around the tree: stairs climbing 3 floors up. Not far away we found the same tree with orange to yellow flowers.

  • Hallo Galit! Vielen Dank! Herzliche Gruesse, Heinz und Kaethi

  • Dear Galit, thank you so much for your wonderful and generous comments under my Puerto Vallarta photo albums. It is my pleasure to view your photography and enjoy seeing your world captured through your camera lenses. It is awesome that we can see each other's worlds just after one simple click! Your pictures from Israel are SUPERB!!! I like them very much!!!! This morning I learned (after opening my e-mail because my server provider experienced some difficulty) that my two albums were featured yesterday…and then only one album was presented on the front page. Lots of confusion… Again, thank you for your generosity and your friendship. Friendly greetings, Rafal from Calgary, Canada

  • Hello Galit, wonderful showing of a questionable? flower, better get ahold of gladysclancy and find out for sure...she'd probably know. A beautiful, bright album, you sure know how to grab the beauties in your neck of the neighborhood. I downloaded #8, with the water in the base of the flower. Very nice, very nice, indeed!! Come visit again. Ron/Oregon Coast

  • Hi Galit! This beautiful Tree has made a wonderful and colourful album. Unfortunately, it is a mystery to me. I just did a Google Image Search on Pistacia vera, but the leaves appear to differ. Your leaves #2 look as though 5 leaves join at a central spot (like Umbrella Tree), but the leaves in Pistacio Search show 1 leaf at end and 2 pairs of leaves along stem. The Flowers are really gorgeous and your photos magnificent. Well done! I have just looked in my book of trees and it does not help either. Hope you can return when the fruit develops further and may solve the mystery. Hope someone can help and I will let you know if I find out anything.. Wonderful album.. Gladys.

Have a wonderful day! PS I took the photos of the peppers and strawberries a while ago but thought to wait untill I have more photos. I just realized that if I'm featured it's may be a good opportunity for a new album... BTW Remember I told you aboud my research proposal a long time ago? Well I'm finally about to submit it next week. I still have to be tested about it and blah blah blah, but hopefully I'll have a little more time. See ya, and have a nice weekend! Orly

  • Hey Galit, you sure know how to pick 'em. That is a real mystery tree and if Gladys can't identify it then I don't know who can. You'll have to ask on one of your TV gardening shows - they should be able to tell you. It certainly looks a BIT like one or two of our trees - I just asked Betty but she has no idea either. Whatever it is, the photos are great so there's a title for you - GREAT PHOTOS OF THE UNKNOWN! Keep well, Peter

  • Hi Galit, I still haven't finished replied to all guestbook entries... not that I'm complaining :-) And BTW that research proposal is not the end of my PhD, it's just the beginning, only because of some reasons (some of which my fault) that beginning became longer and longer. Never mind, they say that from now on it gets easier. Thanks for all your encouragement and have a nice Shabbat too. Orly

  • Hi Galit, Both Pnina and I looked at this magnificent album and the mysterious tree :-) and sadly or luckily we have to leave it mysterious :-) At the first look it could be a Pomegranate, but it is not! We'll try to sort it out but cannot promise anything. Take care, Uriah

  • We have just had another look, with tree and flower book in hand, but to no avail. Does it grow wild? It looks to us as though it might have been planted, alternatively it might have "crossed&quo t; itself with another tree or bush (such as hibiscus for example) Anyway, we are still looking and if we think of it will make a print and take it into the local library when next we go. I might even send it up to one of our gardening shows. While I've got you, many thanks for your very generous comments in my Fabulous Beaches guest book. I would remind you, however, that you had a front view in the last album! Some people are just NEVER satisfied!!! LOL Actually I have a better one than that and I might ask Gladys to email it to you for me. Tata for now, Peter

  • Hi Galit, Just checked mail and found your note and do appreciate you taking a look in my album of Tree Bark...I can say that six of them I can fit my life into, no more, same as you. Were you aware of the water in the bottom of your flower BEFORE you took the picture or after you got it developed? Its always nice to find something new in a picture you weren't aware of before you took it-I think I've only one picture I can remember that I took and there was a surprise in it when I got it back from the camera shop-this is under my Scenic Ocean album, picture is called "Stormy Seagull"-the seagull was my surprise; oh, and do you know what this mystery flower is or were you asking all of us what it might be? When Gladys has problems with the name, I'm sure there will be no one else coming up with it either!! Any hints? Nice album here, young lady and appreciate your nice comments in my album too. We've had a little rain in the past few days, but its still nice for photography. Take care. Ron/Oregon Coast

  • Hi Galit! Just playing a guessing game on that beautiful tree. Has it bloomed for the first time? If the answer is yes then wait for the pods to form. They should be around and over six inches long. When they dry up they'll fall and break and out blows up a kind of cotton. The way it comes out of the pod is treat to watch! It's very soft and silky and makes great pillows. We have similar ones here and they grow to be very tall. The local name for it is Saimul. Thanx for your long long comment in my guest book. You made my day. Regards & God Bless. Samad from Pakistan

  • Hi Galit, from you last entry, a question: did I retire early? Guess I could've retired at 65, but decided I didn't need anymore of the management making their decisions all the time and never listening to those making their business lives so much easier, so managed to get out at 58 and like it a lot better now than I ever did. Six tree barks doesn't give you my age, but now you know that I don't over that figure. I shot a 135 year old Hemlock yesterday, that would make it 1870 and I still cover no more than six barks. Thanks for your visit. Come by and visit again. Best to all. Ron

  • Hello Galit, You've been visiting my Bluebill Lake Album, my, you've picked quite a view didn't you? Thank you. The squirrel challenged me within his area of concern, reason he was so close, about seven feet away and the telephoto closed the distance between us. Bluebill Lake isn't visited often, although its right off a country road that leads to the beach a half mile beyond. The trails are wide enough for one, with tree roots sticking through along the way, so you have to watch your footing. A bridge at both ends takes you to both sides and a fairly easy mile walk around the Loop. The Hemlock, pix #56 is within my Bark album, I did add it on after the fact, then I added another to that same album, this time a honeysuckle. We planted the tree flower seeds on Sunday, the 20th, nothing yet. It has been raining the last nine days here and is beyond the word called 'damp' and another week to go so they say. Take care, have a happy Easter, your and yours. Thank you, for you. Ron/Oregon Coast

  • Hi Galit..I sure have some catching up to do...and what a beautiful beautiful flower does this tree grow!! I have never seen it before, but it seems are reading through the comments below, you may have found your answer!! Your photos are just exquisite and beautifully shot. You certainly portray your passion for the unusual such as the magnificent white flower (spelling?)!! Your macros are stunning considering that it is only a very small flower and you captured it in many artistic ways. Tks once again, for sharing the unusal of the world, as it is always a delight to discover the new and mysterious that covets this world. Hope that you are keeping well, and that life is ever kind to you. Hugs...and kindest regards...Em

  • The tree you posted apears to be a member of the bombacaceae family, I don't know which tree specifically but it sure has a lot of the qualities of a Ceiba or Chorisia.

  • Hi Galit! Thankyou for your lovely message and I am so pleased that this mystery has been solved at last. Your photos are much better than any I found on the Net when I searched for Bombax ceiba, well done! Have you been back to see the Kapok in the seed pods? I have not actually seen any of these in Australia, but looked in my book of Rainforest Plants and found that ceiba is the only Bombax occuring in Australia. Wonder if Em has seen one in the Queensland Rainforests. Thankyou for the interesting information. Gladys.

  • Dear Galit, now that we have got the tree name right, could you please be kind enough to delete my March 10, 2005 entry to this album, by the user name love48joy! I have tried to get you writing emails to me, a lonely old girl as I am.. I have given you my email address in the wrong way. So that it can be scanned from the net and used as harming my computer or sending me spam. I was so new in this computering then, I did not know the rules. I am very grateful to you, thank you in advance. Better safe than sorry. You can see my tree names in my album captions. By the way, I am going again to Funchal pretty soon, on my birthday. As we still have got 25 cm of snow it is very wonderful! I love all your albums and this one was really fun, I was looking at the answer to the mystery, too, and using Google.. I wish I could travel to Israel one day to see some of your splendours. Luckily I have got Galit and Yair to show me the sights! Take care, Merike from Finland

  • Hello! I'm happy to see that you got the name of this tree at last! This is one of my absolute favourites in my second home in West Africa (my first home is in Sweden). I have a couple of shots of the same Ceiba in my own album. --- Could you (even other tropical fans) please take a look at my "mysterious" album, I desperately need some ID-help as well. Thanks in advance!! <3

  • Hi Garlit, I think I can solve the mystery. I believe it is a 'Ceiba' or 'Silk Cotton Tree' also known as 'Kapok Tree'. The holly tree of the Maya People called Yax-Che, in Maya language. There is a debate going on how to translate the ancient word. Account to different pronunciation it could mean 'ya'axche'[green tree] or 'yaaxche'[first tree]. How ever the Maya believe that this Tree united the three worlds of universe. The branches symbolising the sky, the trunk the earth and the roots the underworld. The tree could reach more then 100 feet. The trees won't bloom every year but if they do a full grown tree bears thousand of blossoms. It could bear to 4000 fruits a crop. I hope I'm not to outgrowing here. I just love that tee and the stories abut. Thanks for the beautiful pictures of my favorite tree. Greetings from Mexico, Heidi
