Wow! I've never seen a red thistle before. I was just reading a story with a casual reference to a gift shop called the "Cranberry Thistle" and thought the title didn't make sense. Now I see that it's entirely plausible.

From your Short Canyon album, the last shot called "Name That Flower"...I think that's what's left of a poppy. The leaves are poppy, and that's the calyx, I think it's called...the part of the flower that is BEHIND the showy petals.
