Album Description:

For some reason, in past, Slovenian builds their churches on the hills, of course not only on the hills. But nearby many villages are litle churces on the top, and many times are fortified, and used for defence against ivading, and plundering Turks.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words in my featured album, Ludvik. It made my day. I had so many reactions, that it is almost impossible to have a look at your pictures at the moment. I hope to return later to your albums. Groeten, Mieke

  • Hello again Ludvik, seems I have overlooked this album. Great pictures of some beautifull churches. They do have a continental feeling about them. This is my new name & our little area of England had no stone available to build corners on churches. Prior to 1300, all churches here, were built with round towers as the only materials available were irregular flints or local sandstone. Almost exclusive to East Anglia but there are a few in other parts of the world, so I put together a little album to show them off to the world. Eric

  • Pozdravljen Luka, skoraj vsak dan me prijetno presenetiš z novimi posnetki.

  • Hello Ludvik, I really love the little mountain chapel, it such a lovely picture you took, it is as if you painted it. We have been back from our vacation in the Black Forest, the weather was fine, all weather types passed by, sun, rain, mist, storm and snow (!), so lots of photos have been made. The real work starts now. To answer your question (hiking) each day a different trail has been set out. The work is done mostly by volunteers. And they do a great job at such events. See you, Els

  • Hi Brian! I am sorry, but picture is not that St. Tilen. Mokronog is about 60 km from Ljubljana in Slovenia, and in 19th century was actualy part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Peterlin is well known Slovenian surname. If you have further questions send e-mail to luka_15@excite.com. Regards, Ludvik

  • Luka, I came across your pictures when I was trying to trace an ancestor of mine. Ursula Peterlin married Luka Kukenberger at St. Tilen Mokorgnog Austria around 1870. Is this the same St. Tilen you have a picture of? Thanks for the help, Brian (Ohio USA)

  • Very interesting collection and your observation is very nicely captured. Churches located on the top of the hills are very common in some European countries. Reason- local people can see Church-God's House from every location during daily work...and contemplate. Thank you for visiting my “Flower Shop” it was fun to use tripod….Regards, Rafal
