• Hi Rod, This was an awesome album! Loved them all actually! Thanks for visiting my album and your nice comments. Glad you stopped by. That wasn't my best album however if you want to see my favorites go to the Lake Tahoe one.

 • Hi Chris, You have a point, the sepia tone is timeless, could've been shot yesterday or five year ago, but it also brings a stint of mystery to the picture. I would wonder how it would look in color, like one can't wait to open a present to find out what's inside. Best regards. An Oregon Coast Greetings. Ron

 • Dear Chris, Time to view your beautiful Sepia images again. It's strange how when you view the pictures you look at things in a completely different way and I am drawn to look at all the details in the pictures far more. Thanks for your lovely and always welcome comments in my Sussex weekend album and I gave Nigel your congratulations too, thank you :o) Hope you have a lovely Easter Take care now my friend, Jill

 • Hi Rod, and thanks for the GB entry for my Return To Beijing album today. That brought me to your site, where I'm finding so much to like that I hardly know where to start. I came first to this sepia album, since I have one of those too, and I love what you achieved here. WOW! Your work is phenomenal, and your praise is much appreciated. Best regards from San Francisco...Jeff

 • Rod, all of these photos contain such wonderful subjects for sepia toned photos - that timelessness of any old buildings. I especially love #s 41 & 42, the schoolhouse and farmhouse. They could be striking in B & W, but are warmer in your chosen sepia. Thank you for sharing another medium.

Judy aka L@dybug, Florida

 • Hi Rod. I love the additions you have made here and your choice of subject is inspired. I thought when I first saw Pugwash in colour that it was tailor made for sepia conversion and obviously you had the same idea. The old cottage at Shaldon looks just magnificent under your treatment and the other new ones have also benefitted. Great work my friend and I am looking forward to your weather picking up so's you can get out and about with that Nikon once again. Best wishes, Peter

 • Hello Rod! Wow, don't know how I missed this wonderful collection, but your imagery compositions combined with the Sepia tones is outstanding!! Although I prefer B&W and shades of gray, the textures and subjects you've picked lend themselves well to this treatment, really focusing your view on the details and scenic topic of each image..Well Done!! Of course, your presentation and commentaries are Always 1st Class and add sooo much to the total portfolio experience!! I'll be attempting that soon (B&W-Sepia), may be going for the new Canon 30D to compliment my glass! Take Care My Friend!! Ted

 • Hi Rod, I suppose it's about time I got off my backside and commented on your wonderful work :^)... and this album is a dandy to be sure. Tight, well balanced compositions that waste not a centimeter of the frame, and lighting that brings out the texture of the wonderful structures, as well as the wonderful atmosphere of my favorite part of England. And the sepia toning adds the final touch that lifts these photos way beyond the ordinary. By the way, you and I must be almost exactly the same age judging from the pictures you have posted of yourself on Webshots. I was born in 1949 and you must have been too. I thought I looked boyish at 18 but you have me beat there :^). The wife and I are considering leaving the safety and comfort of our couches here in East Texas, jumping on a jumbo jet and visiting the U.K. sometime in 2006. No way I'd go there without a visit to the West Country. If you don't mind, I might look you up and extend the hand of international friendship! Take care and have a great 2006! Ken

 • Hi again Rod and I am always drawn to this album in case you have added some more shots. Since you described your methods to me I have found that I have been looking at certain older style places out here with a view to adding to my own sepia album at some time in the future. Many thanks for writing in my Aussie Landscapes GB and you are not alone in not realising that it can snow in Australia. Not here in the west, but parts of NSW and Victoria have quite a high annual snowfall and skiing is a very popular pastime over there. I am still not too happy with the way some of my old slide scans come out - I spend ages working them in photoshop but still can't get them just right. I mainly work in Layer Adjustments but still lack the knowledge to know which are the right tools to apply. I am certain it is possible to get a better finish to them than I am currently managing. From your knowledge of photoshop what are your thoughts on this? (Other than going back and re-taking them all in digital of course - LOL) Best wishes, Peter

 • Hi Rod! This is about my third attempt to get back to thankyou for your lovely comments about my Swan River album, and each time I have given up because the pages won't load. This time I have managed to enjoy these lovely Sepia images -- the soft warm tones suit the subjects you have chosen and really give them a timeless quality. Makes a nice variation from the colour we have become so accustomed to. Am I correct in ####uming that these were in B & W when the album was Featured? I think they look great in Sepia. Thanks for sharing, have a good weekend.. Gladys.

 • Hi Rod and it's been great to wander back in time once more via this album. You obviously do your sepia toning in Photoshop - I haven't learnt that yet so if you get a spare few minutes I would appreciate a little tutorial please!! Most of these I have seen before, of course but still paused for a longer look at several, including most of the additions. Cornwall and Devon have ideal places that compliment sepia perfectly and the shots I REALLY go for are 1) Polperro (the perfect shot) 3) Harbour Light - better in sepia than colour I feel 5)Mevagissey. The two shots of Exeter Cathedral, especially the interior, are magnificent. 15)Buckfast Abbey lends itself to this medium very well as does 18) the inner harbour at Brixham. The threshing machine in 21 is great - our friend MaryAlice would like that!. All the shots around Cockington are just perfect in sepia - it's the natural medium for these photos. The only one I am NOT sure about is Torquay Harbour. As a photo I loved the colour version but I feel the modern launches, cruisers etc. are just a tad out of place in sepia - what do you reckon? Finally Powderham Castle and Torre Abbey have a far more natural look about them with the treatment you have applied. An all over wonderful album that should surely "sell" the delights of Glorious Devon and Cornwall to the world. Congratulations on a super job. All best wishes, Peter

 • Hi! Thank you for your comments in my GB for"Exhibition" ! I WAS trying to capture people's expressions,& am glad it turned out! I especially enjoyed the looks on the childrens' faces at the midway--so full of delight & anticipation! None of the adults seemed to be having 1/2 as much fun! I should add that I find this album very enjoyable---it could have been taken 100 yrs. ago.I tried the same in one of my albums,& the whole sepia thing does seem to make you stop & look closer! Many thanks for sharing this album!--Nancy

 • Hi Rod, WOW don't your pictures look so different in sepia tones I do like them though and you clearly like to experiment a lot when taking your pictures something I am still learning to do but when you are with the family there is only so much time you can play around without causing bored faces ;O)I think pictures in black and white do make you look for things and clouds can look amazing that way. The subjects you choose for this treatment too lend themselves to being oldie worldie so it kind of fits they are black and white. Thank you so much for your really lovely GB entires I'm glad too the weather was kind for us at last and we do get some lovely days in our second week too. I noticed too that you have me as one of your favourites ,not very observant of me not to notice sooner but WOW I feel so honoured by that. Staffa was an amazing place to visit and I know what you mean about wanting to go there now you have seen pictures. We have problems with our computer at the moment so it might be a few days till we get it back and I can post anymore pictures. I'm using our laptop right now and its really annoying but I can't get photoshop to work on it and I know there are things that need doing to the pictures to come, just to make them better thats all and straighten up a few dodgy horizons :-/ I also found you website link too If ever there were pictures that needed to be on a website they are yours. Right I better finish before this turns into a book Take care now and have a good weekend Jill

 • Hello Rod, the monochrome makes this is a different and very interesting album, my favourites are the sepia tones of Mousehole. I have tried the 8800 but probably under the wrong circumstances. LOL I took it and the 5400 out on Sunday, it was 24 degrees, I had a fleece on to protect my arms from the midgies,I also had the midgie net on, and just about fainted in the heat as I trailed waist high through the moors! So I opted for my own one, on saying that mine has a wide angled lens which I prefer but there is no zoom to speak of so I will probably use them both depending on what I want to capture. Louise

This time I visit your another featured album - so - please accept my belated congratulations :o)Monochromatic photography is "a real one" for me still...My favourites here are pictures #8 and #9 (of the Mosehole Street) - I like a lot an athmmosphere of them. Many friendly regards from Tami :o) PS. It would be a pleasure for me to dedicate you and your wife a picture of your choice in "Sometimes...". Tami

 • Hi there :-) georgieboy98 directed me to this album and I am glad he did as these are excellent monochrome examples. I can see why it was featured so a belated congratulations. I have just started to experiment with black and white and find it seems to take you back in time and add another dimension to photography. Although I must admit I find it a little hard at the moment to find the contrast I am happy with. Thanks for sharing. Chris...QLD Australia :-)

 • This is just a superb album Rod and I cannot imagine how I have missed seeing it earlier. When I started photography we COULD only work in black and white of course, usually 120 roll film in a square black box called a camera!! No way would it ever take photos like this and I am wondering if you actually took these in BW or if the originals were colour and you have converted them. I do just that and convert them in channel mixer which gives better results that using the BW setting on the camera. Either way your photos are magnificent and I am very impressed with the way in which you have managed to avoid getting those brassy, glary gift shops and picture postcard sellers in picture in your Mousehole photos. Best wishes, Peter in Western Australia

I really liked the picture warning viewers to "beware the dogs". I and my husband are of English, Irish, and Scottish blood. One reason the settlers like the Highlands of Eastern Kentucky is because it remined them of home. Good job, hope to see more pictures, take care. Judy

 • This gives me the old fashioned feeling Rod. It is quite refreshing after all this time of having coloured photo's exhibited. I like your album of Black and White its just great. My Kindest Regards./Elaine.

 • Thanks for your kind comments on my albums. I have had a quick look at yours and can see I am going to have to come back and do some downloading! I will let you know which album and which photos I like best, but the b&w photos of West Cornwall will probably be my first 'hit'. best wishes, Diane

 • Hi Everyone, I assembled this album to get an idea of viewers' reactions to monochrome. I know it may not have the same immediate impact as colour, but I feel it makes the viewer look longer and harder at detail and texture, I would like your comments please, Rod.
