Marita, Thanks for visiting my "Tahiti 101" album. We were on the island of Moorea in December of 2001. The Temae lagoon on which the Hotel Sofitel is located is one of the most pristine in the South Pacific, rated among the top 10 places to snorkel or scuba dive. The expanse of lagoon north of the overwater huts is pristine, unspoiled, wild. Many of the pictures in the album were taken from an outrigger looking straight down through the crystal clear waters of Temae Lagoon to the massive coral heads below. The moray eel was a tiny one that I spotted beachcombing one evening. I can't imagine snorkling as you were and being surprised by a full grown Moray. The horror! I did make violent, physical contact with some coral and spent over a year getting it healed up. The Hobie Cat ride out of that lagoon and into more open water was the adventure of a lifetime! Almost didn't make it back. The nightly, Tahitian music and dance shows at the Sofitel were fabulous.
