• First sight of the old mine workings in the lower reaches of the gill
  • Climbing higher up above the gill now
  • A soft green track and a gentle ascent!
  • Hushes on the far side of the gill
  • Now a place of beauty there is still much evidence of it's industrial past
  • David on the path high above the gill now
  • There were lots of these. I'm not sure what they are!
  • One of the beautifully built tunnels into the hillside
  • Only just high enough for me!
  • I didn't venture further than this!
  • I'm not sure these walls will last much longer!
  • This one was taken 16 years ago!
  • Descending from the Bunton Level to the floor of the gill
  • A large stone slab forms a bridge over the gill
  • The remains of the Blakethwaite Smelt Mill built in 1820
  • Looking back to the smelt mill and the peat store with it's four arches
  • The return path rises gently on the right up on to open moorland
  • The Bunton Level and the tunnel from the return route
  • High up on the moor this track soon joins a shooter's path to Botcher Gill
  • Leaving the shooter's path across the moor we head across open pasture land
  • Descending to Gunnerside
