Manila Chinatown in Binondo, Philippines

Album Description:

In Oct 2007, a church couple gave my family a tour of Chinatown. It was both a splendid cultural & gustatory treat for the entire family. Could this be the start of our annual Chinatown experience? I really hope so!

    • This is a beautiful album of the Chinatown in Manila. It has not changed much and it looks like most Chinatowns in big cities anywhere in the world. Too bad, San Diego does not have a Chinatown, per se. I grew up in nearby Binondo and we'd go to Ongpin to have the best Chinese food and watch kung fu movies with English subtitles. This album brings back memories like going with Chinese friends to a lauriat where we feast for a couple days. Thanks for sharing another masterpiece of an album.

    • "Centuries old Spanish houses stand side by side tall glass towers. Manila's Chinatown - more commonly referred to as Binondo - is one of the few places in the Philippines where one find kalesas (horse-drawn carriages) nonchalantly parked beside the latest model BMWs, Volvos, or Mercedes Benzes. Inside Binondo offices, Palm Pilots sit on top of the trusty wooden abacus. Millionaires and vagrants rub elbows as they pass on its busy, narrow streets." ~~~Taken from http://www.philippinebusiness.com.ph/geographics/binondo.htm
