  • When they got out to the deer, it was completely exhausted. Greg reached down to pick it up and it howl for a moment. He picked it up and carried it back to the cabin. Remember, it was 1/2 mile off shore and not in front of our place. When he got back, he set it down on the ice near the shore where there was a dusting of snow and it had good footing. It simply trotted away. You can see blood on its tail. Not sure if that was an injury or it was in heat. Pretty awesome experience. After Greg rescued the deer, he went out bow hunting :). Ahhh, a true hunter. I took the pictures with my 35mm camera, which had slide film. I just digitized all of my pictures, so I saw these. I had completely forgotten that I had taken these pictures.

  • Back in 1981 at Thanksgiving, I was up at my parents place on Steamboat Lake just north of Walker, MN. The ice had frozen perfectly smooth and thick. There as no snow. In the morning we noticed something out on the ice moving around. We got the binoculars out and found out that it was a deer out on the ice trying to get up like the Bambi cartoon of past. It was at least 1/2 mile out on the ice. My brother Bruce and brother-in-law's brother Greg had skates, so they decided to lace up and go out to it and either try to rescue it or put it out of its misery. We weren't sure how it would react. They brought a 2x4 just in case
