  • I found out somemore information for you. I only grows from June to September and from what I read they can grow up to 8 inches in height. Also from what I read they are very hard to photograph. I have uploaded into Webshots some interesting pictures about these beautiful flowers. Thank you so much for getting me interested in these. Kathy

  • Thanks for your interest folks. A posting on Usenet got me the answer. They aren't fungi, they're actually flowers that lack chlorophyll. Thay're called Indian Pipes and are fairly scarce, though not endangered. They also have some herbal and medicinal properties to them. Most of all they're really cool and beautiful! They should be back next year and I'm looking forward to seeing them again. (for the record they're about 8" tall)

  • Very strange looking, couldn't find them in my books either! Thanks for sharing, they sparked my interest. What size were they? Its hard to tell in a photo. That might be helpful to know. Thanks.

  • I tried looking them up in my book of mushrooms, but I could not find anything that even came close to looking like these. I will keep looking though.
