  • I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos Grahcee. I've been feeding hummingbirds for at least 15 years now, and they never cease to amaze me. This little guy had me mesmerized, and I just had to keep snapping away. He's still out there, day after day, guarding that feeder. I've since placed a shepherd's hook out there for him to perch on, so he has a spot even if that post is being used for a feeder. He now prefers the shepherd's hook. A few more weeks, and the hummingbirds will start to leave this part of the country for their winter homes, but I will be enjoying every minute of them until then. Maureen

  • Thank you for your kind words Sam. I know there are an awful lot of photos here, but I felt I just HAD to post them all. He intrigued me, and I couldn't stop shooting away. I've been feeding hummingbirds for at least 15 years now, probably longer. I know that this is normal behavior, and I just love watching it. I have two other feeders on the other side of the house where most of the action is, so I know this little guy wasn't stopping anyone else from getting to a feeder. Maureen

  • Marvelous study of this male guarding his territory. I've noticed that July and August they guard these areas more than earlier spring..perhaps to protect where they are getting a steady supply of nectar to build their body fat for the migration in August. You have captured so many wonderful shots...thank you for these photos and your wonderful videos as well. ~Sam
