  • Wow John, a real superb walk in great conditions. That ice really would have been a nasty surprise for the unwary! Andrew

  • Hi John. Doesn't snow make everything look so beautiful. Lucky you for being able to make the most of it - mind you I don't envy you the ice!. All the best. Rachel

  • Jill, you don't need crampons on snow. You need them on a) water ice, as I did yesterday and b) white ice - which is the ice formed when snow softens in the sun and then freezes to form white ice, almost but not quite as hard as water ice. John x

  • What a wonderful day John. Snow and an inversion ,,, like Jo and Jill B, I too am very envious! Do crampons help on sheet ice then ,,, I thought they were just for snow. Shows how much I know!!! Glad you had a good day and are back safe. Jill

  • Hello John, I really enjoyed looking at your photos. I was in the Lakes yesterday but the icy high fells were out of bounds for me so it's great to look at your photos instead! Thanks. Maggie
