I recently visited the Big Cat Rescue Sanctuary in Tampa, Florida. It's a tough place to photograph because you need a long lens to focus through the wire fencing and it was very sunny. It was a great experience and would visit again in a heartbeat. Check

  • Dear johnsmith16969, I appreciate the extra information about Big Cat Rescue as I wasn't aware. Though, during my visit, I saw no examples of mistreatment and they all seemed quite healthy. All the cats I saw appeared to be well fed and their enclosures included tropical plants and a smaller dry enclosure for them to get out of the rain. It was explained to me that the cats that they have now were sterilized. Maybe that wasn't the case 10 years ago. Hopefully they were telling the truth. I don't know, but my impression was that it seemed like a professional facility that is passionate about the overall welfare of the cats. The overall impression that I was left with was to be a responsible pet owner and not to fork over money to them. Yes, you could buy a t-shirt or sponsor a cat if you wished, but it wasn't pushed on me. If more people were responsible enough to not adopt exotic cats for pets or buy fur, there probably wouldn't be a need for places like this. As for if I would visit again, I probably would, because politics aside, the animals still need to eat and if a visitor likes cats, they'll see far more here than at any zoo. As a visitor to Tampa, I really appreciated the opportunity to photograph these animals.

Would you pay someone else to keep a dog no right!! So why would you support Carole Baskins to keep her 150 pets which most were bought or born on the compound. Check it out on google before you donate!!

  • Sorry to disappoint you animals lovers I too love animals but Big Cat Rescue is found to be a fraud they breed cats sell cats and buy cats they do everything that they preach not to do Carole Baskins aka Carole Lewis has been defrauding the public for years by getting people to donate to feed her private zoo. She is now trying to rescue cats to cover her tracks but they way she does it is by slandering other sanctuaries until they are shut down then she swoops in to save the day with cameras rolling. She in fact is one of the largest breeders around. She will only provide you her own words to counter these statements but the proof is in black and white and can be viewed by the public.
