Album Description:
Going back to Manila from Baguio, we took a new highway segment called SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) to shorten travel time by 30-45 minutes, thus, bypassing most towns in Tarlac province. I hope SCTEX remains billboard-free.

Dear Carol, You are correct in your written assessment in my SCTEX highway album. I was always in constant lookout for interesting stuff to shoot, & naturally time flew quickly, and before I knew it we reached the highway's end. I normally wouldn't take road photos unless there's something special about it. This new road is probably just 1/10th of my country's entire length, but still it is a significant new road. This infrastructure helps to move freely the raw materials & finished goods between the 3 export processing zones in Tarlac, Clark & Subic seaport. Yes, this aids us to push our Philippine-made goods into the global market, and thus, helps grow our economy. Dear Ding, If you look more closely at the 2nd map (use magnified view), SCTEX runs parallel with the old MacArthur (not Marcos) Highway from Tarlac until Clark. From this point, SCTEX intersects MacArthur Highway & separates south-westward to Subic, while MacArthur simply continues southward to Manila. Without a doubt, the travel from Subic to Baguio will be a breeze. ~~~Mary Ann

Thanks for sharing this beautiful album of a ride on SCTEX, Mary Ann. I wonder if this is parallel to the old Marcos Highway that I saw before. This stretch of Highway makes the trip from Subic to Baguio a bit faster. God bless you, my friend.

The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) is a 94-kilometer four-lane expressway north of Manila, in the Philippines. Its southern terminus is at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales, it passes through the interchange with the North Luzon Expressway near the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, and its northern terminus is at the Central Techno Park in Tarlac City, Tarlac. Construction on the expressway began in April 2005, and opened to the public three years later. To date, it is the Philippines' longest toll expressway. The SCTEx Project was initiated under the administration of former President Joseph Estrada with an original project cost of P15.73 billion.Construction was started in 2005 under the government of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. It is the longest tollway in the Philippines that connects Subic, Clark and Tarlac. During the year 2007 the project was delayed but before 2008, construction resumed.
