Hi,Jane...Just checking in. I'm home from Kentucky. Rebecca did great; ate popscicles, ice cream, and anything else she could get hold of. Not much bothers her appetite! Dixie has been REALLY sick!! Tonsillitis, colitis, and acute gastritis! My vet bill looks like the national debt!!! Of course, as you well know, that doesn't matter!! She is better now, thank the good Lord! I'm having to be really careful with her stomach. Haven't taken any pictures lately, just been taking care of her! Still wet and cold here... When I was in Kentucky, it went down to -5°. That's too cold for this ole southern girl! Hope all is well with you and yours! hugs, Jenny and Dixie.

Hello Jane, I really love your owl, I am big "owl lover" I have a collection of them form all around the world. I never had one in my garden or backyard though. Of course all your pictures are just wonderful..we should have a bigger vocabulary to be able to praise all the wonderful work of our favorite members and all the others too. I think we are all blessed to belong to such a vast community and be able to talk to people,(who love beauty and nature) all over the world just in seconds and to see the new pictures. This fills my heart with joy and humbleness. Kind regards, Kathy (California)

and Jane Bless Your Beautiful Heart for filling our eyes and minds and hearts with the gorgeousness of your world with your wonderful photos!I love your new additions but do sooooo love Mr Owl in all his wisdom -sooooo super to hear from you and thankyou so much for your generous comments I am delighted that you could smell the smells and taste the tastes ! Cox's Orange Apples are the Crispest, biteiest, sharp ,sweet flavour with a wonderful texture and a real snap when you bite into them and all the juiciest juice runs down your chin !!!!They have no orange heritage at all that is just their given name to ask me where the name came from is a question I am certainly not knowledgeable enough to tell you but the cox part I think would have come from the name of the man who either bred it or discovered it.In New Zealand it comes under the catergory of "Heritage Apples"and for all of my life it has always been my most favourite apple -not everyone enjoys the sharpness which really makes your mouth salivate as softer sweeter apples are more popular in general but for me this is so good it is such a definate flavour and my mouth waters just thinking about eating one!!!!I have a feeling that it may have come out from England in the early days but do not quote me on that!I might have all irrate horticulturists sending me apple pips in the mail!!!!!!!:) -It is always such a joy to hear from you and I am very relieved that the power poles are back to standing proud -sorry about that!Love from New Zealand -Lynne

Dear Jane -Back in here for another wander-just had to down load Sunrise over Cascade Mountains -really love this shot -would you let me paint it one day please ?It's o.k if you would rather not I'm just such a fan of dramatic colour play offs and this is sooo great!Hope you are having a lovely time without too much rain-been very hot and humid here and I have just had to cut back all of my garden and treat for black spot rust and mildew -OH BOTHER!Had a phone call from Benj tonight -absolutely loving his T.O.D looks out over where the Buddahs were destroyed -said it was really warm today I asked him what the temp was- -15degrees was the reply -here we are 25 to 30 degrees at home - I said goodness that's very warm Benj- I hate to think how you will feel once you get home!Phill is off to Nuie where a cyclone wiped the whole Island out several days ago -they will be helping build shelter and restore essential services there. The poor people are devastated a beautiful young Mum was found killed -her body protecting that of her nine month old son,he was alive, they helicoptered him out and over to New Zealand for treatment with other victims -poor baby all his life ahead of him without his beautiful mother !Life holds many unexpected and at times unfriendly blows!Return of The Samarai opened in Taranaki last night -Tom Cruise starred in it and all the KIwi's fell in love with him and he was so lovely to so many out here!Really exciting for our wee country to have some acknowledgement of the beauty here!To us every where else seems so sophisticated -I guess we still feel in the bobby sox and chewing gum brigade in comparison!Hey better say Bye for now I'm waffeling on !Take care -Lynne

Jane, Although you haven't included dates for the editing of the album, I'm guessing that January Sunrise (#56) and January Sunrise over the Cascade Mts (#57) are the latest entries. Both photos are beautiful. Although I've always kept the seasons separate (Spring, Fall, etc.) your album has given me an idea to create one spanning an entire year. If I decide to tackle the project I'll select a single subject. I think it would be an excellent excercise in seeing. I'm still working on the Winter album, but the weather has been so poor that I've held off on doing much shooting. The skies have been overcast and last Saturday the temperature dropped to 16 degrees below zero. Tomorrow it won't be much above zero and the winds will reach 35 mph. I have been making additions for the Fractals album, but want to get 10 or so before I post them. This will probably be the first album that will eventually reach the 60 photos limit. The time I've spent indoors hasn't been wasted; I've designed my Christmas card for 2004. Richard

Wow! Just keeps getting better with every addition! Love them all! We're having cold rain for a few days...eagarly awaiting Spring! Here in the South we don't have Winter; they should name the season 'Miserable', 'cause that's what it is! Some nice, crisp, dry cold would be nice! Oh, well, as my Momma says, I can't have everything I want! hugs, Jenny

On this dreary, damp and drizzly morning (it is NOT cold!), I find your snow pictures invigorating! It was 77 degrees here in Montgomery yesterday, and I had to turn the a/c on! And this morning very early I walked Dixie in my nightshirt! Yet two weeks ago it was below freezing for a few nights in a row, with a cold wind blowing! Go figure! Your 'Snow Blossom' is an excellent picture, as is the Owl...What a nice Christmas present for you to get a picture of that! The 'Neighborhood Watch' is striking; many years ago I was blessed with a German Sheperd, and have a soft spot for them. Come on, Jane, get with the program and send Weezie a picture! You're probably like me; always on the other side of the camera! Someone just happened to get me in one of their Christmas shots, and I used that one, although it's not too good! (I don't look good in pictures, anyway!) Of course, I had to put Dixie in there!) Hope ya'll have a great week, with lots more photo ops! (Do you still have snow??) Hugs from me and Dixie! Jenny

Jane, The new photos are great. The flowers are so sharp that it looks as if you may have used flash fill. Did you? The flowers really stand out from the background. My Winter project came to an abrupt halt when the rising temperatures and rain washed away all 58 inches of snow. So we didn't have a White Christmas here after all. There are a few flurries blowing around this morning so I think Winter will return in the next few days. Happy New Year! Richard

Jane, I like the additions to the album, especially Winter Tourists (#38) and Mourning Dove (#40). The side light of the first photo makes the shot. I noticed that some of the birds are just relaxing, while others seem to be wandering around. The feathers of the bird in the Mourning Dove photo are so sharp that it appears to be alive. Thanks for including the date on the additions. Richard

Great album Jane, of course I do have to love all the bird shots, but actually "Birch light" was an amazing shot and my favorite. Your goldfinch? is a warbler instead, probably a yellow-rumped warbler. Mike

What a wonderful picture of a plain ole Maple leaf! Outstanding! So simple, but the way you showed it is great!!! Your 'artist's eye' is showing!! My son-in-law would just drool over the wild turkeys! (He's a big hunter; they are happily putting up deer meat from last week!) I've been out doing yard work this morning, got to get the camera out! Having withdrawals! Catch you later, hugs to all, Jenny and Dixie

How cute, the robins on the birdbath!!! And sparrows, starlings, hummingbirds, we love these birds!!! Thanks for so excellent pictures! The 'end of season' is a wonderful photo too! To answer your question about the rattlers: No cars there! I just had been looking for a 'restroom' behind a big rock when I discovered them. Then, we have been standing around at about 10 feet away from these snakes, taking pictures, Barbara, Henri and I (Barbara has good photos in 'Arizona Desert life' in bao666). Rattlers don't attack, just defend when you come too near, they can strike for about 3 feet... But I think it's better watching your beautiful birds!!!! :-))) Have a wonderful Autumn day! Kaethi

Hi,Jane, love the Autumn Rose! Our summer flowers are mostly gone, everyone here has planted fall stuff. We haven't even come close to a frost yet! Have had a few nippy nights, which I really like. I can't get over the difference in climate in the space of 125 miles, from where I did live! Montgomery is the begining of the costal plains area of Alabama, reaching all the way down to Mobile, and it's like another world! Have you had snow yet???? I think they had a 'light dusting' down here last year, which made everyone run to the store for milk and bread! I think in the South the grocers conspire with the weather people to create these runs! I've lived in the South all my 61 years, and I think I've seen maybe 3 white christmas'!!! My daughter really had culture shock when she moved to Louisville,KY. They have a good bit of snow! I guess we'll be seeing snow pictures form you soon!!! Hugs to you and the gang from my and Dixie!
