there were 2 major North/South Lines and 2 major East/West. The Milwaukee Road and the C & E I went north and south; NY Central and Pennsylvania Railroads went east and west. The grassy arc I noticed the other day must have connected the N-S to the E-W. The curve was a little less than 90 degrees because it began its curve from due north/south at about 10th & Chestnut and ended it at about 13th and Spruce parallel to Wabash Avenue (not due east/west). Railroaders among us may care to elaborate.
