Coat hangers are fine for use in mild conditions, but when the wind starts blowing, consider switching to beefier spoke materials, only because the coat hangers would flap quite a bit in strong wind. One alternative approach is to use only one coat hanger along with your other trekking pole. Adjust the pole to the right length, place it in the corner pockets, and lash it to the shaft.
