A small disc of plastic, with a trekking pole tip-sized hole in its center, will slide over the tip, helping to prevent the canopy's opening from admitting rain. Loop an elastic around the tip and slide it down flush against the plastic disc, holding it in place. The disc also lends strength to the canopy.
