Rockford in the Great Depression was bleak for many people-all social classes were hit. At the time Rfd. was 2nd largest ( Cleveland was 1st) in production of machine tools. Also, furniture mfg. was a big industry-so it also was hurt-people didn’t buy furniture at that time. My Dad worked for Grip Bros. Plastering,& the only commercial building they worked on was the Main Post Office on So. Main St. In the 20s most of the bungalows in the Highland Area were built. Camp Grant was a huge boom
