This is the little lakelet on Darwin Bench, downstream from Darwin Canyon. We had hoped to make it to Sapphire Lake by the end of the first day, but a late start and leisurely pace made this the best stopping point. This tarn was full of small and willing goldens (7-9 inches), much as it was when Charlie McDermand visited it and wrote about it 50 years earlier. This view is taken on the morning of the second day (July 24, 1994) looking toward the Hermit.
