Mauna Kea is one of the tallest mountains in the world from its base. Most of this mountain, a dormant volcano on the Big Island, is under the Pacific Ocean. 13,792 (4,205m) feet of its total height of 5.6 miles (9km) is above sea level. Taken in July 2004, there is snow on the summit frm late December to February.
