Album Info:

A spectacular example of tesselation. The remains of molten lava, from about 70 million years ago, that cooled in such a way as to create hundreds of hexagonal fractured columns. Erosion by sea, salt and wind created the hollow overhangs. Fern-like pseudo-fossils (actually beautiful dendrites of crystals of manganese oxide) can be seen up close. The photo suggests a fair bit of folding and compression over the eons.

    • I have been through every album and downloaded many shots. I'm in the US and enjoy "traveling" the world via webshots! The amazing history in this shot is truly a marvel. Thank you for your commentary on it.
