At 2.5 mile from the Newfound Gap on the Appalachian Trail we pass 6100 ft Mount Ambler, named for the Asheville physician Dr. Chase P. Ambler(1865-1932). He was one of the founders of CMC and its first president. A friend of Theodore Rosevelt, he was one of the early advocates for a national park in Southern Appalachian mountains.
