As long as there is sufficient material left to support the backband, I don't see where the angle would make any structural difference. If need be, the area could be reinforced on the back side with additional glass.

Would like to replace my seat. Do you foresee any structural reason why I could not cut the cheek plate at a different angle than you show here? The plate cuts into my thighs. Would like to cut on the opposite angle from what you show. Any thoughts?
