Sheep appear regularly in the Bible. They were the flashpoint which caused Cain to slay his brother Abel, King David started off as a shepherd boy, who was so devoted to his father, Jesse's sheep that he slew a lion and a bear that attacked them. While it might seem somewhat incredulous to those unfamiliar with the Scriptures, as he managed to polish the giant, Goliath, off with a single shot, it would seem that he might have honed his skills previously on the bear and the lion. It is unfortunate that standards of animal husbandry has deteriorated considerably since the days of King David. There are also numerous references to sheep in the New Testament.
