So the famous song by Gerry & The Pacemakers goes. The Royal Daffodil shortly before embarking on her famous journey along and across the River Mersey to the Wirral. For over 850 years the ferries have crossed The Mersey. The ferries Iris & Daffodil both received the title 'Royal' from H.M The Queen in honour of their service durring WW2 "From the outbreak of war, both the Royal Iris and Royal Daffodil ferried American and Commonwealth troops ashore from troopships anchored in the Mersey. They also stood by during any incidents or bombing raids to evacuate or rescue the troops". Quote From: This is Lancashire 1997
