So very cool. This makes me miss my Alaska... I remember early am drives across Anchorage and the diffrent light and ice affects that would show up from time to time. It took me 45 seconds (or longer!)to even close my awe -struck mouth after seeing this picture (in the thumbnail size even!)To say it's amazing isn't enough--frankly there are no words to describe it--but what immediately comes to mind has been coming to me frequently this year-- (especially in viewing some of the rainbows we've seen lately here in Washington--(which I never seem to be able to capture properly!)and that is what God's Word (Bible)says we will see in the 'last days'--"I will work wonders in the sky above and on the earth below..." I have seen and witnessed the "optical phenonmonen" often called a "parthelion or sun dog" , but this so rare, and obviously only happens where there is permafrost. An awe inspiring picture and a patient and interesting explanation. It never ceases to amaze me how much time you are willing to take to explain the phenomenon occuring in your picture. It makes it so much deeper and real. I went to the photo on perma-frost in the Arctic that you mentioned to me, which led me to the original article. The whole thing was facinating.
