Olive Sparrow (Arremonops rufivirgatus rufivirgatus)

Album Info:
18 January 2006 - Salineno, Texas. This is the only Olive Sparrow we saw on our trip. This species is very shy, tending to skulk deep in the thorn scrub. Several times I tried to track down singing birds to no avail. Thus I was very pleased to get this photo on our last day. This species has been divided into three subspecies groups. The rufivirgatus group ranges from Texas to Eastern Mexico and is the dullest in coloration of the three groups.

This is an excellent photo. What a beautiful animal. I can see how it would be hard to spot one--its coloring blends in so perfectly with the ground! Great job on some excellent pictures! :)
