Album Info:
As we were leaving the Butterfly House, we stopped at one of the lovely flowerbeds in front of the Butterfly House and found this bee enjoying a snack from the gorgeous flower. Sorry I don't know the name of the flower. Please read Mac's (Barbara's husband) identification of the flower in the comments below! Thanks Mac! P1120431

Not sure about the flower, but the bees name is Mildred. If you zoom in close enough you can just make it out on her ID bracelet.;)

Hey, that's not a butterfly. Thanks Mac for the help on the name of the flower. Isn't that appropriate, Butterfly weed in front of the Butterfly House.
said
luvnartusa 2007.06.17 at 19:12:29 PDT
The Flower is called Asclepias tuberosa - common name Butterfly Weed, a milk weed plant. They grow wild all over, but Don't you think that is appropriate in front of a Butterfly house. As always you have given us the most delightful three to enjoy.

Such a beauty of a shot. That bee is very different looking than any I've ever seen. It is so light colored. It is funny because I have never thought of looking up different bees before, to me bees were just bees!! Now I'm curious. Loved your 3 this week, Hugs, Bonnie

Beautiful 3 this week, Sharon, all perfect compositions. This little bee is so cute, his eye looks huge, he must have been really hungry to allow you to get so close. These leaves do look like the milkweed plant, I bet Mac is correct in his name for this showy orange blossom. Tell Bob to have a great Father's Day! Greetings and big hugs from, OKLAHOMA. Susie

Well spotted and great timing on this one Sharon. As Connie says, we don't have Milkweed out here - at least not in this form. We have a wildflower of that name and also a Milkwort, but neither bear any resemblance to this one. This plant of yours, though, is amazingly similar to a wild plant called Red Velvet that grows in a very small area of Western Australia and which I was fortunate enough to be taken to see - and photograph - a couple of years ago. I'll try and dig out the piccie and email it to you. Hugs, Peter

The flower is commonly known as 'Butterfly' weed; latin name 'Asclepias'. They really do attract butterflies! Excellent threesome as usual Sharon. (oops! maybe I should have read Mac's comments first.)

Hi, I'm 'barbicat's' husband, Mac. Barb asked me to identify this plant for you. Its Latin name is Asclepias tuberosa (commonly known as butterfly-weed or pleurisy root). It's a member of the milkweed family. Hope this helps. Mac

I'm no expert on flowers, but it looks like chiggerweed (not very pretty name for such a beautiful flower). The little bee thinks it is "bee weed"!
