The 7 mile summit trail is well-maintained and well-used in summer. A handful of hikers pass by on their return to the parking lot, some of them solo like me. Solo hiking seems to be on the decline these days, especially at day-hike-friendly destinations. Yet as the backcountry is increasingly a casual backdrop for social climbers, and less a destination in its own right, I suppose a few holdovers are inevitable, especially those this far detached.
