19 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio The Palm Warbler has two rather easily identified subspecies. The Eastern breeding D. p. hypochrysea (Yellow Palm Warbler) winters on the Gulf Coast while the Western breeding D. p. palmarum winters in Florida and the Caribbean. Thus their migration routes crisscross with Eastern breeders wintering west of Western breeders. This is was the Western subspecies although you cannot tell that from the back.
