Good to see a great red squirrel photo as potd, congratulations. I did not know you had them in US, they are native in UK but have dissapeared fast after the grey 'tree rats' that call themselves squirrels arrived here from USA & drove the red out of most of their habitats, now only a few small pockets left. Good Pic. I have two pecan trees in my back yard and the little devil squirrels completley strip both trees of all pecans each year. My Miniature Schnauzer loves to chase and bark but the squirrels are just a little bit faster than she is.

Hi Andrew. Congrats. on POTD - What an excellent shot. The Red Squirell you've captured is gorgeous - and wild and free, one hopes! We have a variety of Possums down-under, and they are lovely too, but your Red has much the richer colours. We had a visit in our palm tree the other night - Benjie and Jedda were imploring it to come and play, but luckily the possum knew about dogs, even little ones, and stayed up that tree, with very sharp claws well dug in, like your squirell! When we lived in Mackay,Q. The possum family next door produced a series of young ones, and it was delightful to catch them in the torchlight, little one on Mum's back, big eyes wide!
