Album Info:
On the way between Sassnitz and Binz you pass the vacation complex Prora - a Nazi-planned spa. This enormous house complex, about 4,5 km long, and roughly 150 m from the beach, started building in 1936 and was supposed to accommodate 20 000 people when finished. People who through the organisation "KdF" was sent on recreation to the sea. All rooms were planned to overlook the sea. Each room of 5 by 2.5 metres (15' x 8') was to have two beds, an armoire (wardrobe) and a sink. There were communal toilets and showers. The complex was one of five planned. When the WW II started at 1939 it wasn't finished and never has been! In late 2008, plans were approved to have Prora fill its original purpose and to turn it into a modern tourist resort. The council set out plans to build enough living space to house 3000 people, as well as a youth hostel, and amenities for tourists.
