  • Response to midnighttb: No, this isn't a Wood Duck, though they look a little bit alike - we first thought it was a Wood Duck or a Harlequin Duck, too. However, when we came home and looked it up, we quickly saw that it was not either! They don't have the feathered tufts on the neck, or the "fin-like" feathers on the back, nor are they as colorful! The Wood Duck has a mostly dark green head with large white markings, so this little guy was way different when 'closely' examined. We could not find this duck in any of our bird books, so we did an Internet search for ducks of the world and finally found a picture of the Mandarin. That was IT!!! Thanks for your interest!

  • Is a Mandarin Duck also known as a Wood duck. I always thought these were called Wood ducks. Am I mistaken?
