Cranes are very wary birds and often when the flock is feeding one or two senior members stand guard and being always on high alert, inform the other members with alarm cries when there is danger. In this shot, they have spotted you taking a cose-up shot, my guess. But what an opportunity to photograh them in the wild, I envy you....thanks for sharing...warmest regards/Abid

Great shot. I had to research the sandhill crane. I don't see them in my area. They are suppose to be in Southern Oregon. Thanks for sharing this exciting event. Sharon from Oregon
