Album Info:

I really like the roof on this barn - but have to wonder why it was built thus. Note the old silo in the back. Maybe they shove everything in the side part while holding square dances in the center.

  • Dee, since it is Michigan, maybe they added that part of the roof to help shovel off all the snow. Jerry

  • Nice shot... charming picture. I suspect this was an add-on the the original barn from the look of the seam line where the old roof ended. That's my guess.

  • C&T. Barnchaser and farmer Johann (RSA) asked to correctly supply answer your question. They are duty bound to do so and I SHALL come back to you! Farmers are too practical to do this without GOOD reason. I teenk I've seen this before, the part to the right sometimes used for special storage or some other activity farm-associated.

  • It looks like it has had multiple uses in its day. My guess would be that one use was for drive-thru machinery...easier to park out of the weather that way. Note the slider door. A lot of farmers added on to existing buildings this way for more storage and etc. Some attached under the eave.
