Uluru / Ayers Rock

Album Info:
Beginning of climbing route. Visitors are asked not to climb the rock out of respect for local indigenous people's beliefs about the sacredness of the site and the sorrow they feel, which they ritualistically work through, when many of those who do are injured or die each year, usually from heart attacks. Though not always. I recall the story of one Japanese tourist some years ago who chased a dropped lens cap and couldn't overcome the momentum on the steep slopes. As it was, on the day this was photographed high winds forbade any climbing.
