The only continuously wild bison herd in the U.S resides within Yellowstone National Park. Numbering between 3,000 and 3,500, this herd is descended from a remnant population of 23 individual mountain bison that survived mass slaughter of the 1800's by hiding out in the Pelican Valley of Yellowstone Park.

  • i really like this photo ~ only by this fence are you able to get this close to one of these magnificent animals. i'm not sure where your caption quote comes from, but it is not true ~ for in Montana is also The National Bison Range ~ The National Bison Range is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System. It was established in 1908 and is one of the oldest Wildlife Refuges in the nation
