Album Info:

Australia's largest bird of prey and one of the world's biggest eagles with wing spans up to 2 metres, this was photographed in the Central Desert, Northern Territory, in Australia's 'Red Heart'. So called for the ubiquity of what is essentially rust (iron oxide), it colours so much of the country that lies inwards beyond our green coastal horizons: from the rocks, the soil and sand, to even the sky and its inhabitants. (Note how the eagle's talons have become tinged.) Our blood owes its colour to the base element. This may explain in some unconscious, atavistic way the romance and feeling of connection that most Australians and countless visitors have with our Centre and The Outback. Once you are there in the midst of the world's longest living history, you may vaguely sense that more answers to questions about our origins lie in the land and its soil than anywhere else in the Universe. One way we may try to answer them is via projection on to the land of the abstract idea of 'mothering', through the western mythological variation of a Mother Earth archetype, or the Dreamtime of Australia's aborigines. Such mythological characterisation (and its embellishments e.g. Brother Sun, Sister Moon) makes for a more concrete, relatable way of organising universal experiences and taking care of common, possibly in-built, yearnings - like discovering our roots - in the helpful way that archetypes do, by explaining, supporting and guiding.

    • I'll be turning 60 next week and my energy for the new year will be the eagle energy, the card I drew from a birds'pack.. SONG: "Fly like an eagle"... and this beautiful eagle is the picture to go with me. Thanks for this magical photo....it's breathtaking in its beauty. It's my screensaver now so I'll be able to enjoy its energy regularly. warm regards, Ineke

    • So much energy in this shot! And it seems that you have a metaphysical explanation to it. Intriguing and compelling perspective. For me, everything on this earth has its source in and end with God. And to have Him (through Jesus) in my heart - well, that empowers & humbles me. Yes, the same power that energizes this eagle and the sun in this powerful shot!
