Album Info:

Not a wagtail at all, but a fantail (family Rhipiduridae). Unlike the canopy fluttering Grey Fantail, this is a ground forager that was very common and ubiquitous on our visit. Unlike true wagtails that pump their tails up-and-down, this bird wags its tail from side-to-side. It is an active flycatching bird, seldom sitting still. Birds from northern Australia are the subspecies, R. l. picata. The English name is often hyphenated: Willie-wagtail (e.g. Howard & Moore & Clements). 23 August 2005, Yungaburra, QLD, Australia
