The dirty brown beach sand in these photographs has been caused by massive storm surf that has churned up the sea bed. In addition, major (and unseasonal) rains have brought the rivers down in flood, adding to the gunk deposited on the beaches. Speaking of rivers...South Africa is the only coastal country that has no navigable rivers whatsoever.
