Album Info:

19 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio This is an uncommon species here, with the bulk of the population breeding more to the South. The males are all red once they achieve full plumage after their first Spring (2nd calendar year); the females are an ochre yellow, but older females can be quite suffused with red as in this individual. This is the widespread eastern nominate P. r. rubra. A larger duller subspecies occurs in the Southwest. Canon PowerShot S3 IS 12x
