Blue-winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii)

Album Info:
This species is much less common than the Laughing Kookaburra and it appeared to segregate from them. We never encountered both species together. This species seemed to prefer more open country. This is a male with an all blue tail and is of the lighter bellied eastern subspecies D. l. leachii. Our hosts told us of a recent visitor who was on a mission to photograph all the kingfishers in the world. He got them all but missed this one. Thus I felt lucky to get a picture. 18 August 2005, Daintree Village, QLD, Australia.
