Album Info:

Built about 1878 for John J. Cozad by local people using locally-made bricks. This construction provided work and income during the "hard-times" of the 1870s. In 1882 Cozad sold most of his holdings to S.A. Hendee of Illinois and left the town of his name.

  • I remember walking by this building on my way to the movie theatre. It seemed dark and spooky then. I didn't know the story about John J. Cozad until the 1950's. It was kept secret for many years. I am glad the building has been preserved. It is now a lovely museum to honor Robert Henri, son of John J. Cozad, and fine artist and teacher.
