Lighthouse - Point Montera Lighthouse at Sunset with Coastal Cypress

While driving from Pigeon Point Lighthouse to San Francisco, at about half way, we spotted a small lighthouse on the road. It wasn't a real lighthouse but a smaller model of the Point Montera Lighthouse pictured here. We turned in to a quaint Hostel that sits beside the historic lighthouse which was erected after several ships ran aground in the late 1860s. This small lighthouse isn't nearly as spectacular compared to Pigeon Point Lighthouse or the Point Arena lighthouse which are much taller but it does have a nice view of the Pacific and as far as Lighthouses go, as a Hostel it has much better access to stores and restaurants than does Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel. To find this little lighthouse, just drive down the Pacific Coast Highway south from San Francisco about 25 miles and look for it on the right. You should see a small lighthouse standing on the road with a light blinking at about the same rate as the real Lighthouse. If you wish to stay as the Hostel, prices start at only $20 at the time of this writing. A very low price to stay at a historic lighthouse. The grounds are well kept and the best views of the lighthouse can be found from just in front of the hostel. The rooms have a great vantage point with the Lighthouse and the Pacific sitting just out the front windows of the main house. The lighthouse is still in use and maintained by the US Coast Guard. Just North of the lighthouse is a steep trail that goes down to the beach. There is a bench that sits right beside the lighthouse as well as romantic swing for two in the hostel grounds.
