    • Sooooo, a black duck is not black. Interesting. In Ipswich, Miss Kitty Robertson kept her family's orchards during the Great Depression by eating only split peas and oats with a rare occasion when she managed to kill 3 black ducks. She shared all that she had with the families that worked the orchards. The duck she ate "in a single sitting" she describes in The Orchard, a book published after her death. The not black, but brown ducks kept her alive through a brutal winter when most of the apple crop was lost. Thanks for your photo. Kristen, MeBeMikeyC's Mom
